Moldova, Transilvania and the Danube Delta 1 st day – Hungary, Alba Iulia The group will be wellcome ar the frontier by a Romanian guide, who will accompany them the whole travel. On the way, the city Arad is visited briefly – the buildings in art nouveau from Maria Theresa`s time. Along the Mures River(Mieresch), the group will be driven inside the West Carpathians. Deva is well-known in Romania due to its castles, as well as due of the Dacical and Roman attachments from the environment. By the Mures` Valley along, the group comes into Hunedoara, a largo ironwork center which is know for the impressive look. The plant built on Roman wall remainders is the Hunedoara King Sigismund-which became later German Emperor- in 1409 the prince Voicu Corvin has been given thanks for his bravery in the fights against the Otomans. Here is to be seen a style mixture of Gothic and Renaissance. There are to see, among other things, the Chapel, the Knight`s Hall. Dinner and overnights accomodation in Alba Iulia. 2nd day – Alba Iulia- Sebes- Sibiel- Sibiu- Ramnicu Valcea Breakfast. In the morning, the group will continue the visit with the SaxonianChurch from Sebes (Muehlbach) and the sashi villages. The group will have a city round course in Medias (Mediasch) with inspection of the Saint Margaret`sChurch. This church has the largest wing altar from Romania. The group arrives also at Sighisoara. The objects of interest of the city are the old Clock Tower, theMountain Church. . The most beautiful Church Castle of Romania stands inBiertan, a typical farmer village. It is listed as U.N.E.S.C.O. cultural monument. InSibiel the group can visit the Glass Icon Museum, which is the most important of this kind in whole Romania. In the afternoon, the tourists arrive at Hermannstadt(Sibiu), to visit , during a short walk, the Bruckenthal Museum. At the same time, the group can also visit the Gothical Church, the seat of the Evanghelist bishops inRomania; the city was the capital during the Habsburgers. Late in the evening, the group is driven to Ramnicu Valcea by the Red Tower passthrough. Before that, a short stop is made at Cozia Monastery. Dinner and overnight accomodation inRamnicu Valcea area. 3rd Day Ramnicu Valcea – Bucharest – Tulcea Breakfast. In the morning the group will drive on by the Olt River towardsBucharest, the capital of Romania. A short stop is made so that tourists can visit the Curtea de Arges Monastery – built by 9 handicrafsmen – one of them was thehandicrafsman Manole. In Approx. two hours of travel the group reachesBucharest, the “Paris of the East”, a shepherd gave the city this name – fromBucur. During the city tour, the group will see architectural monuments from “Back to Europe”, the Arch of Triumph, and even the monument of the Roman Female Wolf with Romulus and Remus. Next comes a city tour in Bucharest, the political, economical, and cultural centre of Romania. Bucharest experienced many dark times in the run of the centuries like its distruction by the Otomans in 1595. The capital of the country is called neverthless – Paris of the Balkans. The group will also undertake a round travel and see the Nationl Theatre, the University, the Church of the Patriarchy and monumental buildings dating back since the 20 thcentrury. And, if possible, the tourists will visit the Palace of the Parliament- which is the second largest construction around the world, right after the American Pentagon. In the afternoon the group travels towards Tulcea. Dinner and overnight accomodation in a 3* Hotel in Tulcea. 4 th Day- Tulcea, Danube Delta
Tulcea is the largest city of the Delta and lies briefly before the last forking of the Danube in the place of the antique Aegyssus. After breakfast in the Danube Delta in the program the group will have a visit in one of the largest alive paradises inEurope. A daily trip for some hours will begin into the Danube Delta. The Danube is divided briefly before its delta into the Black Sea into three main arms. Chilia in the North, Sulina –the shortest- and Sf. Gheorghe in the South. The Danube arms are connected with channels among themselves. Between them lie numwerous lakes, as well as in the south- the lagoon landscape. With the large lagoons, fromRazelm and Sinoe, the Danube Delta covers over 5000 Km2 and stands as biosphere reservation under nature protection of U.N.E.S.C.O. In the morning, the group is driven on to the rich planting and bird world, which are unique experiences, by the Sulina channel, up to the channel of the mile 36. The return trip leads the group by narrow Danube channels. A lunch on the board of the ship is included. Dinner and overnight accomodation in a 3* Hotel in Tulcea.
5th day Tulcea, Galati, Suceava area
After the breakfast, in the morning, the group`s travel continues with the ferry-boat over the Danube, in order to reach Galati. From Galati they go towards North, in order to cross the whole Moldova. During the day, in the afternoon, they will visit the two nun monasteries Agapia and Varatec, which have over 1000 nuns and the largest ones in Europe. The workshop of the nuns, where they produce carpets, embroideries or icons is opened also in the afternoon. A visit to theNeamt Monastery follows, where an important number of monks live. The NeamtMonastery is one of the most interesting monasteries: in the Middle Ages it was an important Orthodox cultural centre with schools for miniature painters andcopyes and also a fortress. They will also see the grave of a monk, that came here with his 60 pupils back in the 18 th century. After that, the tourists will go in the city of Suceava. Dinner and overnight accomodation in Suceava area.
6th day Suceava- Satu Mare Breakfast in the morning. The trip begins with the visit of the Sucevita Monastery, where the group can recognize another painting style. The marvelous monastery runs back from the late 16th century. The Church of Sucevita is the most richly visited monastery from Bucovina. With its paintings, which brought with them the surname “Green Juwell”, Sucevita is populated by thousands of persons, of angels, martyrs, of prophets and bishops. In the proximity is also the ceramics center of Marginea, where they can see the production of black ceramics. The large and repeated fire sets of the Turks and Cossaks profranated the PutnaMonastery – built by Stephen the Great. In the morning, the Voronet Monastery is also being visited; the monastery is also called the “The Sixtine Chapel” ofRomania, due to its blue paint used for painting, also called “blue of Voronet”. TheVoronet Monastery disappeared. Now it remains just the church, which was built in the summer of 1488 in just 4 months, in honour of Daniil Sihastrul, an advisor of Stephan the Great. There is a beautiful representation of the “recent court”. Driving on, the group can still visit the Wood Museum of Campulung, which possesses a rich collection of carved articles. At noon, begins the visit to theMoldovita Monastery which is known worldwide due to the external wall painting. Here the group can see scenes from the Bible and from the history of the Romanian people. Inside the monstery, there must be seen the furniture museum which dates back since the 16 th century. At noon, the group drives to the PrislopPass; they will also arrive to Maramures area where the old traditions are still kept by the world-well-known Wood Churches out in Ieud - Bogdan Voda andRozavlea, are identically to those of the Staff Churches from Norway.In BogdanVoda there are to be seen archeological excavations from the last 20 years, a Christian cemetery, a feudale residence from the 13th and 14th century and the ruins of a Stone Church, as well as a monastery from the 13th century. The villageIeud is situated 50 km away from Sighet in the Iza valley. It is famous by its Wood Churches, one of the largest old timber constructions of Romania. It is called Wood Cathedral or Gothical Cathedral and is the most beautiful of the 31 old Wood Churches in Maramures. In the evening dinner and overnightaccomodation in 3 * hotel in Satu Mare area. 7th Day Satu Mare – Hungary In the morning, the group drives to Oradea, up to the border with Boron. They take a few moments of rest in Oradea, where the buildings are built expecially in art nouveau. At the border, the guide leaves the group, and then the tourists are taken to Hungary. |
