BUCHAREST - DANUBE DELTA AND MOLDOVA`S MONASTERIES
1st DAY UK – BUCHAREST – TULCEA
Arrival at the airport in Bucharest Otopeni. The group is wellcomed by the Romanian guide and then driven to the Danube Delta. The capital ofRomania, with over 2 million inhabitants is one of the largest cities of the East. After almost three hours of travel the group reaches Bucharest.Bucharest is surnamed the "Paris of the East" - a shepherd gave this name to the city Bucur- Bucuresti. During the city tour, the group will see architectural monuments dating back from the “bark to epoque”, the Arch of Triumph, the monument of the Roman Wolf Female with Romulus andRemus. Bucharest experienced many dark times in the run of the centuries- like its distruction causes by the Turks in 1595. The country`s capital is called also the “Paris of the Balkans”. The group will undertake a round travel and see the National Theatre, the University of Bucharest, the Church of the Patriarchy and buildings from the 20th century, which were established under the dictator Ceausescu, and, if possible, the Palace of the Parliament – the second largest building (as surface) after the Pentagon worldwide. In the afternoon, the journey continues with a trip in Tulcea. The group will arrive in the most Eastern part of Romania in the Danube Delta. Dinner and overnight accommodation at a 3* Hotel. 2nd DAY TULCEA – DANUBE DELTA- TULCEA After breakfast in the Danube Delta, the group will visit the surroundings, in the Delta. The Danube is divided briefly before its delta into the Black Sea into three main arms. Chilia in the North, Sulina –the shortest- and Sf. Gheorghe in the South. The Danube arms are connected with channels among themselves. Between them lie numwerous lakes, as well as in the south- the lagoon landscape. With the large lagoons, from Razelm and Sinoe, the Danube Delta covers over 5000 Km2 and stands as biosphere reservation under nature protection of U.N.E.S.C.O. Tulcea is the largest city of the Delta and lies shortly before the last forking of the Danube in the place of the ancient Aegyssos. In the morning, the group is driven on to the rich planting and bird world, which are unique experiences, by the Sulina channel, up to the channel of the mile 36. The return trip leads the group by narrow Danube channels. A lunch on the board of the ship is included.Dinner and overnight accomodation in a 3* Hotel in Tulcea. 3rd DAY TULCEA – GALATI – PIATRA NEAMT
After the breakfast, in the morning, the group`s travel continues with the ferry-boat over the Danube, in order to reach Galati. From Galati they go towards North, in order to cross the whole Moldova. During the day, in the afternoon, they will visit the two nun monasteries Agapia and Varatec, which have over 1000 nuns and are the largest ones in Europe. The workshop of the nuns, where they produce carpets, embroideries or icons is opened also in the afternoon. A visit to the Neamt Monastery follows, where an important number of monks live. The Neamt Monastery is one of the most interesting monasteries: in the Middle Ages it was an important Orthodox cultural centre with schools for miniature painters and copyesand also a fortress. They will also see the grave of a monk, that came here with his 60 pupils back in the 18 th century. Afterwards, the group will visit St. John`s Church built by Stephan. Dinner and overnight accommodation in Piatra Neamt. 4th DAY PIATRA NEAMT – CAMPULUNG MOLDOVENESC
Breakfast in the morning. The group begins to visit the Agapia Monastery which was built in the 18th century. Then the group will visit the Monastery Varatec. Those two monasteries count over 1000 nuns and are the largest ones in Europe. The Voronet Monastery, which is called "The Sixtine Chapel" of Romania, is visited in the afternoon. The monastery Voronet disappeared, and now you can only see its ruins; the monastery was built by Stephen the Great, in the 15th century. In the afternoon, the group will go and see the Wood Museum in Campulung Moldovenesc, which possesses a rich collection of carved articles. Dinner and overnight stay in Campulung Moldovenesc. 5th DAY CAMPULUNG MOLDOVENESC- TARGU MURES
Breakfast in the morning. Then a trip to the Moldovita Monastery is taken. Moldovita Monastery which is known worldwide due to the external wall painting. Here the group can see scenes from the Bible and from the history of the Romanian people. Inside the monstery, there must be seen the furniture museum which dates back since the 16 th century.On their way, the group will make a short stop at the Dracula`s Castle, in order to visit the museum. Then, they will leave and visit Bistrita, and theProtestant Churches. In the afternoon the trip leads them to Targu Mures, where are to be seen : the Palace of Culture, the Old Fortress, the Orthodox Church. Dinner and overnight accommodation in Targu Mures. 6th DAY TARGU MURES- SINAIA – PREDEAL
At first, the group will have breakfast. In this morning, they will go inTransilvania, the area where the German Collony (sasii) established itself in 12 th century. The first stop is made in Sighisoara, where they will also visit the old part of the town. The most beautiful mediaeval city of Romaniarises on a wooded hill. In the center of the city, where the 429 metres high mountain castle (on its highest point) dominates the view, you can see rising the mountain church and mountain school. At the fortress wall you can still see the 9 towers pointed with roofs guard left from 14 that were standing at first there. These impressive buildings from the 14 th century still stands today, because it survived a horrible fire in 1676. A piece of splendor of the historical museum is the reproduction of a pharmacy from the 17 th century. Here the points of touristic interest are : the Clock Tower, the birth house of Dracula, as well as the mountain church and the Josef Haltrich High School. The most beautiful Church Castle of Romania stands for a typical farmer village in Biertan. It is listed as one of the U.N.E.S.C.O. cultural monuments. Turist hill have dinner here in Sinaia/Predeal area, where they will also be accommodated. 7th DAY SINAIA – PREDEAL AREA
In the whole area the group can see numerous Saxonian Church Castles which were built in the 14th and 15th century. In Brasov, the Black Churchis also visited, which is the largest gothical building standing in Eastern Europe. It`s the Turkish prayer carpet collection that is world wide famous. In the afternoon, the group will go visiting the Bran Castle, which is also called Dracula`s Castle. This name was established a long time ago by theTeutonen and strengthened afterwards by the German guids from Brasov. In reality, Vlad Tepes – Dracula never entered there – he was a hospodar inWallachia, not in Transilvania. But it was convenient to say that he did in the Middle Ages, because back then, Transilvania was very powerfully , and it however reminds of the description of the Dracula Castle made by Bram Stocker. In the evening, the group arrives to Sinaia, a city in the South Carpathians, which got the name from the monks from the Sinai Penninsula, because of the monastery, which was built here, in the now called town of Sinaia. Dinner and overnight stay in Sinaia/ Predeal. 8th DAY SINAIA/PREDEAL – BUCHAREST – HOME FLIGHT (United Kingdom)
At first tourists will have breakfast. Afterwards, in the morning, the group can visit the Peles Castle in Sinaia, which was the summer residence of the royal family. In the program is included the inspection of the locks fromPeles and Pelisor. Karl von Hohenzollern Sigmaringen- victory Marine General – who named Carol I as king on the Romanian Throne. To the mixture of wood, stone and framework architecture with asymmetrical towers in the style of the German Renaissance, are added Italian terraces, build in Baroque Style. The Peles Castle, built in the Bavarian Style, reminds the Hohenzollern`s of homeland. The trip continues with Bucharest, the capital of Romania. The group says good-bye to their romanian guide and take a flight back home, to UK, where they will arrive in the afternoon. |
